Children's Museum of Tacoma auction, fundraiser June 18

The Children’s Museum of Tacoma presents “Playing Under the Stars,” a dinner and auction to benefit the museum’s free admission program, on Sat., June 18 at 6:00 p.m. The event will take place in Pierce Transit Park, across the street from the museum at 936 Broadway in Tacoma. Tickets are available for purchase at http://www.ChildrensMuseumofTacoma.org for $100 each. This annual kick-off to the summer event season invites guests to dine in the park on a meal created by the chefs of Masa/Asado, take part in a lively auction, and indulge in toys that every adult (or child) will want to take home.

The silent auction features an extraordinary line-up of items, including an evening for twelve at the Dockyard Derby Dames championship game, with a private bus ride to the game and VIP seating; seven-day stay in Villa Los Arcos Mexico and roundtrip airfare for two; and “Gone Fishing” cedar Craftsman style playhouse built by Korsmo Construction. In addition, the museum’s own exhibit “New Digs” will be an auction item. With the museum moving to a new location later this year, this is a unique opportunity for a family to bring this popular exhibit into their home. New Digs is urban gardening at its smallest, with a miniature deli counter, produce market, and apple tree.

The 2011 “Playing Under the Stars” event will benefit the museum’s free admission programs at its 936 Broadway location. Last year, 19,333 people visited the museum for free through one of its many access programs. This comprised 49 percent of the museum’s onsite annual attendance. The museum served an additional 11,805 people last year through its free outreach program, Play to Learn. When the museum opens its new location at 1501 Pacific Ave. on Jan. 14, 2012, it will become a “Pay As You Will” admission museum, opening the doors for free to all families in Pierce County.

“Playing Under the Stars” is supported by AA Party Rentals, Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, Cascade Print Media, Green Mountain Coffee, Lakewood Towing, Masa and Asado (X-Group Restaurants), Patriot Fire Protection, Republic Parking, Rhodes Center, SiteCrafting, Sunbelt Rentals, and Unico Properties.
