Budget, B&O tax, city manager finalists top Tacoma City Council special meeting Tuesday

Tacoma City Council is scheduled Tuesday to hold a special meeting to consider a variety of items.

First, City Council is scheduled to hear two final ordinance readings and receive 2012 General Fund budget reduction proposals including: internal services budget reduction presentations from the City Manager’s Office, Government Relations, Non Departmental, Hearing Examiner, Human Resources, Information Technology and Legal departments.

Second, City Council is scheduled to hear the final reading of two ordinances. The first would amend the municipal code related to admission tax, to remove the exemption provided to those attending events sponsored by non-profit organizations with annual admission revenues over $250,000 to collect a 5 percent tax on all admission charges exceeding $250,000, effective July 1, 2012. Council is expected to consider a motion that would postpone this final reading to the meeting of Jan. 31, 2012. Council is also scheduled to hear the final reading of an ordinance that would decrease the annual gross income threshold for Business and Occupation Tax to $150,000 beginning in 2012 and would amend the Small Business Tax Credit to incrementally increase the taxes paid for gross income over $150,000 and up to $200,000.

Finally, City Council may deliberate on the City Manager finalists and vote on a final selection during the special meeting. Council could also decide to continue their consideration of the finalist qualifications and make their final decision at a later date.
