Anonymous donor pays $103K to clean Tacoma Dome roof

The City of Tacoma announced Tuesday an anonymous donor approached an intermediary earlier this month for help with making a donation to the City to pay for cleaning the Tacoma Dome roof. Following the conditions of the donation of up to $103,835 for the express purpose of cleaning the Tacoma Dome roof by May 8, the City has hired a contractor to begin cleaning the roof on March 26.

“We are grateful that an anonymous donor has stepped up to donate the funds needed to clean the Tacoma Dome roof,” said Mayor Marilyn Strickland. “The Dome is one of our most prominent landmarks, and it is a testament to the people of Tacoma that someone cares so deeply about this community to step up and make this donation.”

The roof was last cleaned in 2003. The roof cleaning will be performed by the same contractor that completed the 2003 cleaning, Pioneer Masonry.
