800 runners in Bank to Bay

“More than 800 runners and walkers breathed life into downtown Tacoma on Saturday by participating in the First Annual Bank to Bay event.Key Bank and the City of Tacoma co-sponsored Bank to Bay, which included a 10K run, 5K run/walk and 1K kids’ run.The success of Bank to Bay exceeded even our high expectations, said Jim Washam, president of Key’s Southern Puget Sound District. We hope it continues to grow each year and become an even more spectacular event.Proceeds from Bank to Bay went to Tacoma Public Schools’ Help-a-Student Fund, which provides basic needs items and school supplies for needy students.Washam presented a $10,000 check to the school district at the awards presentation following the event.Each of the top three male and female finishers in the 5K and 10K runs received cash awards.The top three male finishers in the 10K run include: Daniel Salazar, 34:11; James Matsusaka, 34:29; and Mathew Schmitt, 35:42.The top three 10K female finishers were: Lyudmila Vasilyeva, 36:06; Tracy Bohlman, 39:51; and Deborah Fletcher, 41:48.The top three male finishers in the 5K run include: Mark Van Eycke, 15:24; Joshua Bigler, 16:00, and Brian VanEycke, 16:03.The top three 5K female finishers were: Tatiana Salazar, 17:01; Shannon Sharp, 17:12; and Mindy Leffler, 17:18.Participants can get the entire list of race results on HYPERLINK http://www.ontherun.com www.ontherun.com.Although the 10K course was challenging, it gave runners some of the most spectacular views in Tacoma, said City Manager Ray E.
