4-car crash injures 3 in Tacoma

A four-car accident Thursday afternoon at South 19th Street and South I Street in Tacoma has sent three people to a local hospital, according to Tacoma Fire Department officials. Tacoma police officers and fire fighters arrived at the scene just before 1:45 p.m. and closed South 19th Street between South J Street and South Yakima Avenue. UPDATE | Thurs., Sept. 26 @ 2:30 p.m. — Here is an update and additional photos from Tacoma Fire Department spokesperson Joe Meinecke:

At 1:17 p.m. Tacoma Firefighters from station 1, 2, and 4 responded to a reported two-car motor vehicle crash. The first arriving company found two cars that hit head on in the intersection of South 19th Street and South “I” Street, and three additional cars, including one vehicle landing on top of a parked car about 100 feet down “I” Street. Crews worked quickly to assess all parties involved, and a total of four patients were transported to area hospitals as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
