$23M Advanced Technology Center opens at Bates Technical College

More than 200 people celebrated the grand opening of Bates Technical College’s $23 million Advanced Technology Center in Tacoma on Jan. 7.

The two-story, approximately 53,000-square-foot facility is the new home for programs covering Digital Media, Information Technology, and Engineering programs. It also includes an auditorium, meeting spaces, administrative support and educational spaces, a STEM classroom, a learning resource center, and student support services. The award-winning building was designed by Tacoma-based McGranahan Architects and achieves the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold rating, according to Bates Technical College officials. Officials broke ground on the building in March of 2014.

The Advanced Technology Center is part of Bates Technical College’s Central/Mohler Campus, located at 2320 S. 19th St., in Tacoma.
